Yin Yoga
Have you lost a loved one and are you going through a period of grieving? If so, this Yin class will help you create space and time to embrace and process your grief. It's important for your own wellbeing to allow yourself to feel and release the emotions that come with grief, rather than suppressing them. This class aims to help you do just that, through a series of carefully chosen Yin yoga poses and pranayama. We'll start with a guided meditation followed by a breathing exercise that encourages deep inhalations and long exhalations. This pranayama technique is particularly effective in releasing tension and aiding the process of letting go. The long exhales are key in facilitating the release of pent-up emotions and stress that often accompany grief. The Yin yoga poses are specifically selected to open and release tension in the chest, belly, and shoulders – areas that commonly tighten during periods of grief. In Chinese medicine, the emotions of grief are linked with the organs Lung and Large Intestine and their associated meridians, which run through these areas. Doing these Yin yoga poses help to harmonise the chi flow in these meridians and release any stagnation. Remember grief is not a ‘bad’ emotion. According to Chinese Medicine emotions is manifested energy, and like all energy, it needs to flow. Tears, a natural response to grief, are a powerful way of releasing tension. Allow them to come; they are part of your healing process. At the end there is a guided Savasana, providing a space for reflection and peace. This class isn't about rushing through the grieving process, but rather about giving yourself permission to truly experience and live through your grief, knowing that your loved one will always be with you in your heart. Let this practice be a safe space for your grief, a place where you can embrace it fully and allow it the time and space it needs.Props needed: a bolster and a blanket, belt (optional).
