Marlene Smits is a non-dogmatic yoga and meditation teacher. For the last 20 years she has been cultivating meditation and yoga practices and spiritual development. She has been teaching for almost 10 years.
Marlene’s background
She studied different meditation techniques ranging from Silva Method to Osho’s meditations, from Transcendental meditation to Mindfulness, from Kundalini to Buddhist, from Vedic to Shamanic and others in between. Great teachers and inspirations have been Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Swami Nityananda, Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati, Osho, Drunvalo Melchizedek, Ram Dass, Ajahn Brahm and many more.
Yoga style
Marlene teaches Kundalini-inspired yoga and Yin. Her yoga journey started with Hatha yoga, through to Shiva Rea’s Vinyasa yoga and onto Kundalini and Paul Grilley’s Yin yoga.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini became a special love since it is such a precise and practical science and very meditative at the same time. Its effects are almost instant, which is great for our busy every day lives. Great teachers and inspirations have been Nirvair Singh Khalsa, Gurmukh, Harijiwan, Maya Fiennes and Sukhmandir Singh. Kundalini gives you, amongst many other things, movement of energy and transcendence of consciousness.
Yin Yoga
Then Yin yoga came along and gave another dimension to Marlene’s practice. Deep relaxation of the body and its connective tissues creates space in the body, and this, combined with meditation and Kundalini is a magical combination that Marlene is now teaching. She combines many different teachings from all over the world into her practice, creating a bridge between modern urban reality and ancient wisdom. Her classes are never the same and accessible for beginners and advanced practitioners alike.
Her love for yoga
Marlene’s main passion within her teachings is to show people that everyone can do yoga, and that it only takes a little to create a positive shift. You can really dive deep into your system, through all the different layers of your being to empty yourself of any unneeded and unwanted baggage, so that life can be experienced more fully, with more joy, wisdom and love.
Marlene Smits teaches yoga in Amsterdam and loves to teach workshops at festivals or yoga studios in the Netherlands and abroad. She is also a writer for publications like OM magazine and is owner and designer of Urban Goddess yoga wear, a hip, fair and affordable yoga brand.
