This practice is specifically designed to help improve your Side splits. You do not have to be able to do the splits, just a curiosity to explore your range of motion. Yin Yoga is often the forgotten counterpart to flexibility and is extremely efficient at improving range of motion. Try this class regularly along with my other class, Vinyasa flow for Side splits, to get the best mobility gains. If practicing both classes on the same day, practice the Vinyasa class first and end with the yin practice.
