Have you had Covid? Or do you have a heavy chest and a lot of phlegm? Would you like to enhance your lung capacity and breathe more freely and deeply? If yes, try this short but effective Yin class.
We use both large and small balls to stimulate certain acupuncture points, encourage a deep, myofascial release in the upper back and chest area, and enhance the functioning of the lungs. We will start with Box Breathing which calms the mind and evens the breath. This will be used throughout the practice to help release tension in the diaphragm, ribcage and upper back. Then we practice Yin poses that stimulate the Lung meridian and help to reduce phlegm and coughing. Due to the opening of the chest you might feel the need to cough; this is a natural way for the body to excrete what is not needed in the body. If this happens come out of the pose and resume when the coughing is over.
At the end we will slip into Shavasana right away, so make sure you are comfy and warm when you practice. Be playful with how you position your body in order to find the ‘juicy’ – sometimes tender – spot. If it’s too intense, move away from the area a bit, so you can relax better and let the pressure of the balls and gravy work their magic.
Props: large ball (if you don’t have one José gives a different option in the class), blanket, 2 pillows, bolster, blocks, 4 tennis balls and 2 sport socks.
