Meditation can be daunting - especially if you think you have to be able to sit for 20-30 minutes with a still mind and a painless body. The reality is, this is not what most people experience. The good news is, Yin Yoga can help! Just like in meditation, we want to become still in a Yin yoga pose, whilst observing the breath, the sensations of the body, and the emotions and thoughts that come and go. Instead of 20 or 30 minutes, we stay just a few minutes in each pose. This is a great preparation for the body and mind to become familiar with sitting still and not reacting or identifying with whatever arises - just observing.
If you're struggling to remain still - during meditation or Yin yoga - due to discomfort in the body, this is where a functional yoga practice (practicing in a personalised way) can be of great help. In this talk and short meditation practice, José will guide you through different meditation positions to help you to sit without ‘hanging’ in your back or closing your chest area. If you have difficulty relaxing, or your mind is weary, José also offers you some Yin yoga poses to help calm your nervous system down. Then she will guide you through a 15 minute meditation.
You'll need: pillow(s), bolster, blocks, blanket.
