Often in the Guru-student relationship surrender is confused with submission. There is benefit and merit to be found in trusting the spiritual teacher profoundly and to be willing to let go of the known, offer oneself into the fire of existence beyond time, but never at the expense of one's own inner compass. This was a lesson Harry learned the hard way. In this talk Harry describes his descent into the underbelly of life where the spiritual light is dimmed, values lose their shape and reality, and love and the presence of the divine become distant memories. The dark night of the soul is harrowing as it is cleansing, ultimately, when we make it through. "If you want the moon, do not hide from the night. If you want a rose, do not hide from the thorns. If you want love, do not hide from yourself," Rumi says. In this talk Harry describes his journey through this important passage.
