When you meditate, you actually let go of your own agenda and open to what is. That is quite the opposite of our normal approach to life: instead of trying to get somewhere we listen and let life speak to us…we let our body speak to us, our feelings and our senses.
It may take some courage and perseverance to do this, especially in the beginning. To just sit down, without distraction and start noticing what is there. It requires a willingness to see how things actually are, instead of how we would like them to be.
But it pays off! You will become more comfortable in your own skin once you start to allow yourself to feel. Allowing the truth, even when it is painful, relaxes us on a deep level. What we suffer from most, is trying not to feel what we actually feel!

And yes, meditation brings inner calm.
Because we stop resisting how things are.
Yes, meditation brings ‘groundedness’.
Because our bodies can relax in allowing whatever is felt.
And finally, meditation brings clarity.
When the turmoil of our thoughts come to rest by just observing, we start to see that we are not our thoughts, we are not our feelings. We begin to see how we create stories in our minds and get lost in them. We start to experience there is a vast, peaceful presence in which everything appears.
To me, meditation is a useful tool, a natural invitation to the heart of who we are.
