The human mind is a very powerful thing – it is capable of attracting and creating infinite possibilities of reality. Unfortunately, for many of us, our minds are unruly, and unfocused, and restricting little things. Small, conditioned minds are stuck spinning in tiny circles of limiting dreams, desires and versions of reality. Such minds do not know their innate infinite power to MANIFEST anything and everything they want, to CREATE anything and everything they can conceive.
The good news: the moment we become aware that we have the magnificent power to ignite the proverbial fire (out of nothing: something!) we begin the process of changing our lives and manifesting our wildest dreams into reality. If you are hearing the nag of doubt reading this…know this…our minds can be trained to be focused, our limiting belief systems can be shattered, dropped and changed, our perceptions can be altered and transformed, and our individual consciousness can be expanded to a global and even a cosmic one. Everything we desire, dream of and can conceive is waiting for us…waiting for our minds to break free, to open, to expand in order to allow pure creation into being.
Waking up: Desire to change
Your desire to change must be stronger than your desire to stay the same.
According to Samkya Philosophy we live in Realm of Duality. This ever-changing nature of rights and wrongs, goods and bads, blacks and whites keeps our minds spinning, confused, dull and unfocused. What is so beautiful about this realm of duality though is that at some point, during a life of choosing between opposites, we are compelled to want something radically different than what is and always has been. Unsatisfied with what seemingly is, we hear what is often referred to as “The call of our soul.” There has to be more. This deep desire for radical change can pertain to our jobs, our bank accounts, our health, our relationships, our worldview, and/or our relationship to Nature, to God, to Cosmic Consciousness.
Now, change does not come easy. Albert Einstein wrote, “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” To truly change…change one’s ideas, habits, perspective, etc. means that one has to have the courage to leap into the unknown.
True Change is Unknowable. The Unknowable can be very scary indeed because otherwise it would be the same stuff showing up in slightly different clothes, with slightly different hair color, driving a slightly different make of car, with a slightly different attitude adjustment.
Same Old, Same Old.
Been There, Done That.
The Merry-Go-Round…goes around and around.
Shift your perspective: Free your mind from mental slavery
Often referred to as an A-HA moment, a radical shift in perspective frees the mind from the chains of limiting beliefs due to familial, societal, religious and/or cultural conditioning. In Yoga this can be the shift from the dualistic perspective mentioned above to a more Advaita Vedandist non-dualistic experience of the reality of ONENESS with the primal creative force of all that is.
The sacred Upanishad utterance, “Tat Tvam Asi,” means that we ARE that primal creative force – not separate from it. If WE are indeed THAT (the primal creative force that has created EVERYTHING) then we too can manifest anything we want and desire. The Buddha said, “What you think you become. What you feel you attract. What you imagine you create.” All we need to do is clear our mind of all that is old & unnecessary and FOCUS.
Train your mind: Withdraw your senses and concentrate
One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular. – Tony Robbins
The human mind loves to play in two fields of duality: the field of the future and the field of the past. Rarely does the mind like to play in the field of ATHA, the field of NOW, the field of the DIRECT EXPERIENCE OF ONENESS. I am a firm believer that one of the most profound things we humans can do is train the mind to BE IN THE NOW for longer and longer periods of time (imagine 24/7 of NOW-NESS???). It is in the NOW that everything that can possibly happen is happening. The realm of creativity and manifestation is only accessible RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. Our job is to calm and clear the mind and focus it like a powerful laser beam into now – primal creative force streaming forth through your mind.
Laser Beam Manifestation Meditation
(20 minutes)
- Sit comfortably (on a cushion, blanket or block for hips level or higher than knees).
- Focus the mind on the breath coming in through the nose and out through the nose. (2 mins)
- Direct the mind to the breath as it travels up your nasal passageways and travels down your nasal passageways. (2mins)
- Expand your mind and experience your chest rising and falling as you breathe, ribs widening and narrowing as you breathe, and belly expanding and contracting as you breathe. (2 mins)
- Expand your mind and experience your whole body rising, falling, expanding and contracting as you breathe. (2 mins)
- With a calm and clear mind ask yourself, “What do I want?”
- With a calm and clear mind HEAR & SEE the answer.
- With your whole body breathing FEEL what you want is RIGHT HERE and happening RIGHT NOW.
- Keep your mind calm, clear and focused for 10 more minutes: HEAR, SEE & FEEL YOUR DREAM BEING TRUE…RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.
“Practice, Practice and All Is Coming” – Pattabhi Jois
In Sutra 1.21 Tirva Samveganam Asannah it is written, “Those who practice with intensity, vigor and firm conviction achieve concentration and the fruits of concentration more quickly compared to those of medium or lesser intensity.” Withdrawing our senses (Pratyhara) is very hard to do but so very important if we want to focus and concentrate (Dharana) the power of our mind on the NOW. Sitting and focusing the mind takes determination, discipline and practice (lots and lots of practice).
You can do it! You are worth it!
